A COUGH that lasts for three weeks or more is the focus of a new campaign to increase awareness of the symptoms of lung cancer and improve earlier diagnosis in Barnsley.
The latest research from NHS Barnsley shows that three in ten residents aged over 50 were not aware that it was a common sign of lung cancer and must see their GP.
Throughout June, the borough’s dedicated mobile cancer unit will be visiting locations across Barnsley to promote early diagnosis.
Dr Renu Bindra, of NHS Barnsley, said: “With lung cancer claiming around 175 lives in Barnsley, it’s important that the public is more aware of the symptoms and, if someone has the key symptoms, they visit their GP straight away.
“If you’ve had a cough for three weeks or more, make an appointment to see your doctor today.”
