Talented young dancers from Yorkshire are being sought by the UK’s leading dance bodies to perform at the Royal Albert Hall this November.
Dance Proms, which takes place on Sunday November 2, is designed to showcase the high standards of dance from around the UK and the rest of the world and covers an array of genres including salsa, street dance, cheerleading, ballet and ballroom.
This year, the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), are encouraging more Yorkshire-based dance schools to put the town on the dancing map.
Patrons for Dance Proms 2014 include Darcey Bussell CBE, Angela Rippon OBE, Matt Flint, Chris Hollins, Arlene Phillips CBE, and Lisa Riley.
Teachers with budding choreographers and talented dancers from one of the three dance organisations should video an original piece of choreography and submit it for consideration by a panel of dance industry professionals before April 27 2014. This can be a group dance, duet or a solo dance and can be in any genre.
A spokesperson for Dance Proms, said: “This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for talented young dancers to perform in one of the world’s most iconic venues in front of top industry figures and celebrity dancers. We know that Yorkshire is home to lots of the country’s most talented young dancers in many genres and we really encourage them to apply this year.”
Dance Proms Patron Darcey Bussell CBE said: “It’s so important that young talent has a chance to see what other talented people are doing at this national event. I know from my own experience how important it is to see what your peers are up to while you’re training. For a student, performing at the Royal Albert Hall is out of this world. They learn so much and it will affect them for the rest of their lives.”
Last year’s event involved twenty-five dance acts from across the globe and more than 450 talented dance students.
Registration is open until Sunday April 27. Online registration is now open at www.danceproms.co.uk.
