BARNSLEY’S own ‘Calendar Girls’ are invited to make themselves known, in time for a new stage production of the award-winning show!
Auditions for roles in the quirky play based on an inspiring true story will take place soon, and talented, confident ladies aged over 30 are invited to take part.
Birdwell-based LS Theatre Productions were selected from thousands of applicants to be one of 500 groups to stage one of the first amateur productions of the popular play.
Producer and Actor Lee Semley said: “After the success of our last production Kes I am so proud to have been chosen to bring another heart-warming story to the Barnsley stage.”
He added: “We will also be part of an exciting attempt to set a world record for the most productions of one play in one year, to put Barnsley on the world-wide map.”
So ladies who are willing to disrobe as a Calendar Girl, following the much-vaunted fashion of the Rylstone Women’s Institute, should email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information. Auditions will take place on May 6, for an early September production.
Meanwhile, the Academy Theatre at Birdwell will stage another comedy, ‘Does It Hurt When I Touch It’ from April 3 to 5.
Set in a doctors’ ‘makeshift surgery’ in a village hall, it includes ‘carry-on’ type humour with a host of witty one-liners and colourful characters. Seats can be booked on 01226 744442.
