Post office workers went on strike today in a further dispute with the Communications Workers Union over a requested pay increase.
Shoppers at Doncaster’s Priory Place Post Office, which was closed until Thursday, said they had received no notification of the action, only learning about it from a note on the door.
Michelle Bennie, 42, of Burton Terrace in Balby, was left unable to do her Christmas shopping because of the closure.
She said: “It’s benefits day and I knew nothing about it so have come into town from Balby to buy some Christmas shopping, and now I can’t.”
An 86-year-old pensioner from Finningley, who did not wish to be named, said she was disappointed that she couldn’t buy her stamps to send off her Christmas cards, adding: “They’ve obviously got some sort of grievance.”
