FEWER agency workers have been recruited - despite ongoing demand - since costly regulations came into force, according to a leading employers’ organisation.
The Confederation of British Industry is now urging a rethink as the Government prepares to review the measures.
Neil Carberry, CBI director of employment and skills, said agency jobs were a crucial way into employment for many people. But he said the regulations had led to firms spending money on compliance rather than temporary staff.
“One year on from the introduction of the regulations, the business verdict is that they are a drag on job creation in this vital sector,” he added.
