HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is issuing a new year reminder to anyone who has not yet sent in their 2010/11 self assessment tax returns.
Self assessment returns must be submitted online before the January 31 deadline or people risk incurring a £100 fine.
Late submissions will result in the financial penalty and this will also apply to those who mistakenly file paper returns – even if there is no tax to pay or tax is paid on time.
It is important to register because it can take up to 10 days to receive activation codes.
January 31 is also the deadline for paying any tax owed for the 2010/11 tax year.
