'Selling will allow company to grow'
THE former owners of a Doncaster company have said the decision to sell the business will allow it to grow.
As reported in the Free Press earlier this month the board of Certex UK has agreed to sell the company to Swedish firm Axel Johnson International AB.
Axel Johnson is a subsidiary of Forankra International AB - a privately owned company which has businesses throughout the world.
A legal requirement of the takeover was that the value of the deal remained anonymous.
The sale will see Certex, based in Harworth, change ownership just three years after the firm was previously sold.
Certex's board of managing director Tony Stringer, marketing director Charles Gillespie, and operations man Kevin Smith bought the company in 2005 from Bridon International.
Since then the company's annual turnover has grown from 12.5 million to more than 18 million.
The number of employees has also risen from 154 to 185.
Mr Stringer said: "When Axel Johnson first approached us last year it was not part of our business plan to seek a purchaser for Certex UK.
"But once we began discussions with Forankra it became apparent we could benefit from the commercial strength of joining such a prestigious international group, without losing out on any of the autonomy and high levels of customer service we enjoy."
Certex UK has also recently completed its move into new purpose-built headquarters on the Harworth Industrial Estate.
The 49,000 sq ft building is home to a central warehouse and state-of-the-art production facilities.
More than 400,000 has been invested in new manufacturing and testing equipment including two new 10-tonne overhead travelling cranes.
