SANDWICH chain Subway has dished up a jobs boost in Doncaster with the opening of a new branch - and another set to follow.

Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton is due to officially open the new store at Doncaster railway station tomorrow morning, creating 14 jobs.

Another branch of the international fast food chain will be unveiled on platform three at the station on Monday, bringing the number of Subway branches in Doncaster to five.

The new store is situated in the booking hall and is one of four in and around the Frenchgate Centre and Interchange. The chain’s other store is in Priory Walk.

The store opening forms part of ambitious development plans to increase the number of Subway branches in the South Yorkshire and Derbyshire area to 69 over the next five years, creating around 525 new jobs.

Store owners Bob Moodliar and John Bor said: “We were very excited to have Rosie Winterton at our store opening. It is ideally located in a high footfall area between the station and shopping centre and will give busy shoppers a healthy lunchtime option.”

Tim Hedley-Jones, stations and property director at East Coast, said: “We are delighted to welcome Subway to Doncaster station. We want our customers to have a good range of food and retail choices as part of their journey.”

Meanwhile, the Frenchgate Centre branch of jewellers Warren James is to relocate to new premises within the centre while the future of the Doncaster branch of Republic remains uncertain after the Leeds-based fashion retailer went into administration. The firm’s 121 stores are continuing to trade while the search for a buyer goes on.
