Magic Moments children's charity raises over £1m

The Magic Moments children's charity was set up in 1998 by Alick Smith, the then Chairman of the UK's largest independent estate agency Spicerhaart, and his wife Val.

The Charity was formally known as the Fantasy Charity Fund and has raised in excess of £1m over the years and is dedicated to helping children with life limited illnesses and their families. We achieve this by sending children from our supported Hospices and their families on trips to Disneyland Paris.

We currently support 12 Children’s Hospices around the country that are situated close to our branch network which enables our staff to get involved and see the difference the fundraising makes.

Our colleagues fundraise all year with our main aim to take families to Disneyland Paris every year

for a special trip to spend time together. Sometimes families have been recently bereaved and

they find the support at this very difficult time absolutely invaluable. In 2015 we took a record 221

people (45 families) from the 12 Hospices we support to Disneyland Paris for four days. Each

year different members of staff accompany the trips, not only as representatives but also to assist

wherever they can.

Our trustee Emma Barber who went last November said; “I feel truly privileged to have taken 21 amazing families to Disney, over the days you really do get to know their individual stories and start to understand how much this trip means to them.” We have a dedicated committee, led by myself, who co-ordinate activities throughout the year. We are also very fortunate to have the commitment, support, dedication and sponsorship of Spicerhaart’s colleagues (and their families and friends), along with the company’s suppliers and business associates.

Each year the committee receives numerous letters of thanks expressing fond memories. It is a pleasure and an achievement in the knowledge that we have brought smiles to these special children’s faces and in providing fond memories for their families especially for those who have children whose lives are limited.

Spicerhaart have recently appointed Sharon Owen Area Manager for Haybrook Lettings to join the board. Sharon will be accompanying two local families to the Disneyland Paris trip this year. Sharon said “I am very excited about the trip and feel honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity to join the board and assist in fundraising for this superb charity and support families at this difficult time.
