ATTENTION to detail is the ingredient for success, according to Doncaster Market butcher Daniel Wilkinson, who scored top marks of 100 out of 100 to secure gold and a champion title at the BPEX Regional Roadshow and North East Pork Product Excellence Awards.

Daniel, owner of Wilkinson Butchers, entered three products into the event at the Great Yorkshire Showground, and his traditional pork sausage couldn’t be faulted by the judges who gave it the top award in its category.

Young sausage maker Dean Laverack also came away with gold for his dieters’ extra lean pork sausage.

Daniel said: “This was a huge event, almost a mini national competition, so to be named one of the champions is quite an achievement.

“The Traditional Pork Sausage is a real classic. We haven’t changed the formula for a number of years and, while it continues to score maximum marks, I don’t think we need to.

“Bringing awards back to the shop is important in these tough times.”
