A SMALL business in Doncaster was being given a hotline to the Labour Party leader Ed Miliband.

Doncaster North MP Mr Miliband visited Yorkshire Cable Drums as part of a ‘Business Buddy’ scheme which gives politicians a taste of day-to-day life at small firms.

Mr Miliband saw at first-hand how the family-run company, based in Selby Road, Askern, operates and heard about the issues it faces – as well as offering advice and support.

The event was arranged by the Forum of Private Business, a not-for-profit small business support organisation.

Mr Miliband said: “Businesses of all sizes are working in a difficult economic environment so it is useful for me to hear first-hand the problems they are facing.

“Small businesses like Yorkshire Cable Drums are tremendously important to the economy here in Doncaster because they generate enterprise and create jobs. It’s vital I do all I can to help them succeed.”

Mr Miliband launched a Small Business Taskforce in 2010 to decide how governments can increase entrepreneurship and help small businesses.
