You’ll never look at a cup of coffee in the same way again.

Mouldy milk, lumps of lime scale and dodgy electrics are just some of the terrors Martyn Hutchinson comes across in his job as owner and service engineer at Coffee Machine Services Ltd.

It’s his job to transform run-down machines into sparkling specimens that will create a dream cup of coffee for client’s customers.

Coffee Machine Services Ltd was set up in 2010 by Martyn and his fiancee Joyce Crowe, 53, from the garage of their home in Eggborough.

The couple got together four years ago after Martyn had lost his first wife to cancer. But they had in fact met 25 years previously - when Martyn bought a cottage from Joyce and her mother.

“My two boys grew up with Joyce’s son and daughter,” said Martyn, 57.

“It feels as if we have been together all that time. Everything just dropped into place.”

Of their business venture, Martyn added: “I came into it thinking I would possibly semi-retire but that’s not going to happen. When we started from home that was very short lived because it grew so quickly. In the end I had 73 coffee machines piled up in the garage and a tiny little space to work in.”

After 12 months, the couple moved into a unit at Carcroft Enterprise Park. They have had to move into bigger units twice to cope with demand from customers including Starbucks, Costa and Subway.

They now have up to 100 coffee machines in for repair at a time, employ two further members of staff and are looking to recruit an apprentice in the coming weeks.
