Tourism bosses claim Doncaster’s economy received a £750,000 boost from a high- profile jet ski event in the borough over the weekend.
Doncaster Council estimates that was the sum brought into the borough through hosting the European jet ski championships at Doncaster Lakeside.
The event was organised by the International Jet Sport Racing Association.
The championships, which took place on August 16, 17 and 18, were last held in the UK 10 years ago and have previously been held in Portugal and Belgium. More than 300 competitors and 4,000 spectators turned out for the championships.
Councillor Bob Johnson, cabinet member for tourism, said: “Jet ski competitions take place regularly at the Lakeside in Doncaster and are an important part of our visitor attractions.
“We had world champions and there were teams from across Europe and as far afield as Dubai. The event has put Lakeside firmly on the map as an excellent venue.
