The secret to success in the fashion business is keeping up with the latest trends, knowing what is wowing audiences on the catwalk and being aware of what people want to wear on the high street.

This is the ethos of one Doncaster boutique, which is celebrating three decades of continued success.

Robinsons of Bawtry celebrates 30 years in business this year and 2015 marked its busiest year to date.

The boutique has occupied the same spot in South Parade since 1986 and their sales of clothing from top designers, including Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Mulberry and Michael Kors continue to grow and grow.

Director Russell Jones, aged 58, of Bessacarr, said: “We turn 30 at the very top of our game in terms of business success and industry recognition and of that we are very proud.

“2015 saw a 12 per cent increase in sales and this is attributed to our unique collection, friendly service and ability to offer the very latest designer menswear and ladies wear brands as well as having some labels that have been with us since the start such as Hugo Boss.”

Originally launched by Tony Robinson and his late wife Jeanette, Robinsons has been under the ownership of the Jones family - Russell and Wendy, aged 52, and their son James, aged 29 - since 2009.

The company is one of only four independent shops in the UK to offer the Armani Collezioni Made-to-Measure suit service and being an official Mulberry stockist for over 15 years.

Since launching the shop has increased in size by nearly 400 sq ft and sells everything from shirts, jeans and jackets to dresses, knitwear and hoisery.

It was one of the first stores in the country to stock the Moschino Boutique range. The most popular items include Mulberry bags, jeans, men’s shirts and suiting, Michael Kors ladies clothing, footwear, bags and accessories.

Mr Jones said: “We buy directly from the brands’ London offices, most of the brands are too big for us to deal directly with the designers however we have direct access to top level UK executives in Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Mulberry, Michael Kors and many more.

“We work closely with our brand managers and our customers to ensure we provide the latest ‘must have’ labels and items as well as fulfilling the needs of our clients.

“This approach led to us winning the 2015 Drapers Independents Award for ‘Premium Fashion Independent of the Year’ which was a real high point for us all.”

The boutique has also just been shortlisted as a finalist for the Drapers Independents Award for the Best Customer Experience in an Independent Retailer and the winner will be announced in September.

The Robinsons team also play a pivotal part in the Bawtry Retail Association which promotes Bawtry to the wider business community. They are actively involved in a host of events each year including the Visit Bawtry Polo Cup, Bawtry Fashion week, Visit Bawtry Race Evening as well as Supercar Driver Meet events.

Over the years the boutique has also been renowned for its annual charity fashion show in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research which has raised more than £320,000 since it began 23 years ago. It was launched by Mr Robinson in memory of his first wife who died of cancer in 1992.

Mr Jones said: “It is important to us that we not only run a business that is the best it can be but that we also integrate with the business and local community.

“It’s about embracing new opportunities, using new tools to develop your business such as social media and loyalty programmes and striving to evolve at each and every step of the journey.

“We are looking forward to many more years at the helm of this fabulous business and to making new friends and acquaintances along the way.”

The company will be marking 30 years in business at this year’s fashion show, which is due to be held on Sunday, October 2. Brands to feature include Michael Kors, Armani Collezioni, Armani Jeans, Belstaff, Eton Shirts, True Religion Brand Jeans, Versace, Jacob Cohen, Jeffery West, Escada, Hugo Boss, Moschino and Mulberry.
