Epworth supermarket plans go on show

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

PLANS for a supermarket in Epworth are to be unveiled to the public next month.

Developer Tilbridge Developments has announced it will be holding an exhibition so the public can see plans for the store which is provisionally planned near the site of the Holmes and Garden garden centre in Belton Road.

The sessions will be held at the Imperial Hall, Epworth, on March 19 from 6pm until 9pm and March 20 from 10am to 5pm..

Consultant Luke Pickering, of Tilbridge developments, would not reveal specific details about the plans, but told the Epworth Bells: “We have booked the Imperial Hall to hold an exhibition for a possible supermarket on the High Street at Epworth.“

One Epworth town councillor has called for a public consultation if a planning application is made for the proposals.

Coun Eddie Mardell said residents should be asked for their opinions.

He said: “People are split in their opinion about this. Some people might see it as a good thing, others might see it as the end of the High Street.

“We have three minimarkets in Epworth, Londis at the garage on Station Road, the Co-op at the market place and 7-11 on Station Road.

“There are a lot of people who use Scunthorpe or Doncaster to do their full weekly shop, but the elderly in nearby villages come in to Epworth to stock up.

“I assume it will have a bakery, and butchers and sell clothing, all of which we have already on the High Street.

“The developers haven’t yet submitted a planning application to North Lincolnshire Council. Epworth Town Council have said in the past should this proposal be put forward to planning, it would go to a public consultation.

“This will affect a lot of surrounding villages as well.”
