FREE internet use and help with CVs and applications are on offer to jobseekers keen to improve their employment prospects.

A job club has been attracting dozens of people keen to get back into the workplace after redundancy, career breaks or who are wanting a change in direction.

The friendly and practical service run by Doncaster West Development Trust (DWDT) is held at the Terrace Training Centre in Castle Avenue, Conisbrough, twice a week.

Job-hunter Bill Treen, 57, was made redundant from his last job and attends every week to use the computers.

He said: “I haven’t got a computer at home so it’s ideal for me. I can go on websites like direct.gov to look for jobs and apply online.”

Former warehouse worker Jason Snape, of Conisbrough, was last employed at Christmas on a temporary contract and has tapped in to the free technology to update his CV.

The 22-year-old said not having to pay for the service was a big advantage as well as having one-to-one help on hand when needed.

Elaine Buttle, of DWDT, said the social aspect of the project was an added appeal.

She added: “Anyone out of work can start to lose confidence and get into a rut of not getting out and meeting people so we try to make it fun and well as practical.

“When someone who’s attended regularly suddenly stops coming we usually hear that they’ve found a job so it’s obviously working.”

Volunteers have also come into the club following a surge in numbers, particularly from Denaby, to help with the running such as Alison Vine. She said she wanted to use the experience to help her find her first teaching post.

The job club is run on Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am and noon.
