Two chefs have combined all the right ingredients to jointly win the Young Business Person of the Year - and an array of accolades.
Alistair Myers and Tom Lawson own Rafters Restaurant on Oakbrook Road in Nether Green, Sheffield.
After leaving school, both chose to go into catering and dreamt of one day opening a restaurant in their home city. Tom is now head chef and Alistair is the manager. After working at two different companies together, the pair teamed up and their ambitions became reality with the purchase of Rafters in 2013.
Buying an established business with a good reputation the previous two chefs had built up over 20 years may have been a risky move for some, but in the first eight months of trading the pair’s reputation grew and grew.
Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield’s finest restaurants and the combination of the highly-skilled cooking of Tom partnered with the friendly and relaxed service of Alistair continue to make it an excellent experience for customers.
Tom even cooked for Alain Roux, Angela Hartnett and Steve Love, all Michelin starred chefs, when he reached the finals of the prestigious Roux Scholarship.
The restaurant, which employs 16, has been entered into the Good Food Guide and the Hardens Guide this year and continues to see customers flock through its doors.
