Schoolchildren were the guests of honour as they helped open a new £1.2 million supermarket.

Youngsters from Haxey CofE Primary joined Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Coun Peter Clark to cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the village’s Co-operative foodstore.

The school is to be the store’s first community champion, and received a £200 donation. Others in receipt of a monetary gift were the village hall and Haxey Cricket Club.

The store has created 14 new jobs in the Isle, and it is now open seven days a week.

It has opened on the site of the former Central Garage in High Street.
