Shoppers are being urged to shop local this weekend as part of a national campaign to support small businesses.

Doncaster Council is appealing for residents to support the fifth annual Small Business Saturday on December 5.

The grass-roots campaign encourages people to shop local and support firms in their communities, both on the day and beyond.

Councillor Bill Mordue, cabinet member for business at Doncaster Council, said: “Doncaster is a great place to shop and we have some fine independent local businesses that deserve your support, especially in the run up to Christmas.

“By shopping locally we help keep the wealth within the Doncaster area which benefits everybody.

“We have worked with partners to bring more events and festive activities to the town including an ice rink and craft market.

“Our award winning Doncaster Markets have over 200 stalls offering a wide range of gifts at excellent prices.”

A craft market will run on Saturday at Doncaster Markets between 9am and 4pm.

Goods on offer include ceramics, toys, textiles, watches and pictures.

Shoppers can also take advantage of a novel way to get around the town centre via a land train.
