Shane Christopher Walker, aged 29, broke into a house in Windmill Avenue, Conisbrough, earlier this year after smashing the patio doors to get inside.

A suspicious member of the public called South Yorkshire Police and when an officer arrived two men jumped through a downstairs window to escape.

A stash of electrical items was found piled up in the house ready to steal.

CCTV and forensic evidence tied Walker to the crime scene and he pleaded guilty to burglary during a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court.

Walker, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 32 months behind bars.

PC Katie Gannon said: “Burglary can leave victims feeling frightened in their own homes and Walker’s actions that day clearly showed he meant to take numerous items from the property for his own financial gain.

“He has accepted responsibility for his crime and is now behind bars.”
