Budding artists were given a treat when painter Ashley Jackson dropped in to give an arts workshop.

Fifteen sixth-form students from North Ridge Community School were given drawing and painting tips from the Barnsley artist.

Jean Oxley art teacher at the Woodlands school said: “The students loved it. They were all absolutely buzzing for the rest of the day.”

Mrs Oxley said it was great to have someone of Ashley’s calibre coming in to teach the students.

“It is so much more beneficial for them to get the techniques first hand. We have got some really good artists in our group,” she added.
