POLICE are investigating reports of a potentially live grenade at a property on Newbigg, Westwoodside.
A call was made following the discovery of what is believed to be an old grenade, that was found during renovation work to the property.
As a precautionary measure police have put a cordon in place and are evacuating neighbouring properties. Partner agencies have been called in to help.
Road closures are operating in the areas of Newbigg and Commonside and the public is asked to use alternative routes so as to avoid the area.
The Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit has been contacted and is en route to establish just how dangerous - or not- the grenade actually is.
Disruption to travel in the area will continue until such time as the area is deemed to be safe.
Police said: “We would like to thank the public for their patience as agencies work to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.”
