ARMED police officers were reportedly seen investigating a derelict factory this afternoon.

Residents called the Free Press to say at least six police cars were surrounding the dis-used factory along Queen’s Road, Wheatley.

The road was temporarily taped off as armed officers and police dogs entered the building, the Free Press understands.

A police helicopter was also hovering over near to the scene just after 3pm, resident Andy Williams told us.

The 28-year-old, of Queen’s Road, said: “I saw police officers carrying guns go into the factory and they took police dogs in with them too.

“I’m not sure what happened but it must’ve been quite serious for them to tape off the road.”

Other residents said they heard screams of ‘help’ coming from the factory.

South Yorkshire Police are yet to confirm any details.

The road has since been re-opened.
