A MAN accused of flooring a father with a single punch that left him in a coma, has been remanded in custody.

Paul Oakden, 21, of Kingswood Close, Bawtry, has been charged with grievous bodily harm following the unprovoked attack on 35-year-old Iain Eldridge.

Oakden’s family wept from the public gallery as he appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded in custody.

Mr Eldridge, of Auckley, remains critical in Royal Hallamshire Hospital with a severe head injury after the incident which happened along Station Road in Bawtry, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Oakden is due to appear again at Doncaster Magistrates’ via video link later this month.
