A pedestrian has died following a major road accident on Balby Road in Doncaster this morning.
Details are sketchy but it is understood a male pedestrian was killed after a collision with a lorry near the Curry Mahal Indian restaurant on the carriageway leading out of Doncaster towards the A1(M).
The accident took place at 11.20am.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said that the man had jumped from railings near the road’s junction with Sandford Road and was then in collision with the HGV, although details are still coming in.
An eyewitness said: “I heard a bang and there was a man in the road. He had been knocked quite a distance along the carriageway.
“It was horrible.”
An air ambulance landed on the carriageway and Balby Road has been sealed off following the incident, believed to involve an HGV from logistics firm Norbert Dentressangle.
A number of police cars and ambulances are at the scene and the road is expected to re-open soon. Buses have been diverted and motorists have been warned of potential disruption.
