A CYCLIST suffered serious injury after he was hit by driver who appeared to have “lost control” of his car.

The 39-year-old from Kirk Sandall sustained a broken ankle and sprained pelvis after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Middle Bank in Lakeside yesterday.

A red Toyota MR2 was travelling around the right-hand bend in Middle Bank, near to the Royal Mail sorting office, when the driver seemed to lose control of the car.

The car spun, hit the kerb on the offside and then the nearside, which pushed the car into a steel fence and the cyclist - who was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The 17-year-old man, driving the car, who was from Bessacarr, was not reported to have been hurt.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of driving prior to it.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
