A teenage angler from Doncaster is to receive a top national bravery award for saving the life of a friend after he fell into the River Don near The Hub college campus.

The riverside drama last June has led to Cameron Shaw, of Brodsworth House, St James Street, being awarded a Royal Humane Society Testimonial on Parchment and one of the society’s resuscitation certificates.

In addition to the awards he was praised by Dick Wilkinson, secretary of the Royal Humane Society, who said: “There is no doubt that but for his swift action the other angler would have died. He richly deserves the award he is to receive.”
