A teenage boy was killed when he was struck by a train at a South Yorkshire railway station.

Emergency services were called to Chapeltown railway station ay 9.16pm last night.

The 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: “Our officers were called to Chapeltown railway station at 9.16pm on Wednesday after reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and South Yorkshire Police also attended but sadly a 17-year-old local male was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers have informed the teenager’s family and a specialist family liaison officer is providing them with support.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
