PUPILS, teachers, vicars and community helpers came together to officially open a new garden which has been created following a major fundraising project.

The former playground between Tickhill St Mary’s Primary School and St Mary’s Road had fallen into a state of disrepair over a ten-year period.

The school’s parent and teacher association came on board to boost the campaign to revamp the area and raised thousands of pounds towards the £35,000 scheme.

It was officially opened with Canon Gordon Taylor, of St Mary’s Church, and Bishop of Doncaster Rev Cyril Ashton on hand to help unveil the spruced up space.

It is hoped the new-look garden will be used for children from the St Mary’s Road-based school to grow their own fruit and veg.
