POLICE in Rotherham are warning residents to lock doors, garages, sheds and vehicles to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

Officers say they often experience a spate of burglaries in the summer months when people tend to leave windows open and doors unsecure.

A Rotherham Police spokeswoman said: “Burglars will target people that leave doors and windows open or on a locked latch with laptops, mobile phones, handbags, purses and keys left in full view and even close to an open door.

“People should remember that all doors, garages and sheds should always be kept locked, even if you are home and especially if you are in the garden.”

Anyone needing further information regarding home security should contact their Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101.
