Bessacarr road repairs planned

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

Doncaster Council has issued a warning of travel disruption in the Bessacarr area as road resurfacing work is carried out this weekend.

The local authority will close various sections of Stoops Lane during the improvements, between Cornflower Drive to Nostell Place.

The surfacing works will start tomorrow (Sunday, March 16) for a period of seven days.

To minimise disruption, the works are to be carried out in sections due to the large number of houses in in cul-de-sacs where residents have access only via Stoops Lane.

For safety reasons, a road closure will be in place for the duration of the scheme. Access will be maintained where possible but there will be times in each section when access is unavailable during the day.

Councillor Glyn Jones, Doncaster Council’s Deputy Mayor, said: “We thank the public for their patience while these compulsory road surfacing works are carried out.”

Work will be carried out in five sections (subject to change):

Section 1: Cornwall Drive to Burnham Close.

Section 2: From Burnham Close to between Harcourt Close & Hallam Close.

Section 3: From between Harcourt Close and Hallam Close to Welton Close

Section 4: From Welton Close to the Medical Centre (Nostell Place)

Section 5: Car Park on Alston Road

The dates are as follows:

Sunday, 16 March - Excavate existing carriageway in sections 1-3. Adjust ironwork in section 1.

Monday, 17 March - Lay surface course to section 1, ironwork in section 2.

Tuesday, 18 March - Lay surface course to section 2 and adjust ironwork in section 3.

Wednesday, 19 March - Lay surface course to section 3.

Thursday, 20 March - Excavate car park (section 5) and resurface.

Friday, 21March - Float day or road markings first visit.

Saturday ,22 March - Excavate Section four approximately 120mm deep and lay binder course.

Sunday, 23 March - Lay surface course to section 4. Complete road markings.

The Council has sent out 3,000 letters to local residents about the scheme.

It asks residents on Stoops Lane to remove their vehicles from the carriageway outside their property before 8am each day. Refuse collection will be as per normal on Wednesday, 19 March but the local authority asks that bins are put out prior to 7:30am on this day as Stoops Lane will be the first collection of the day.

The bus service will have an alternate route. People should contact Traveline on (01709) 515151 for information.
