Budding beauty queens are set to help boost the £50,000 charity legacy of an inspirational teenager who died from cancer.
Contestants taking part in the Miss British Empire South Yorkshire pageant later this year will be raising funds in memory of 17-year-old Hannah Brown, of Hatfield.
Following Hannah’s death the Free Press launched a campaign to make sure the £50,000 - which will help others suffering from the disease - is achieved.
And now organiser Danielle Hanson, of Skellow, says she hopes girls will come forward in their droves to help the campaign.
The 24-year-old, who was crowned Miss British Empire Doncaster last autumn, said: “Unfortunately Hannah was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour and passed away.
“I know Hannah’s brother Matthew and thought this would be a good way to help add to the total. I want us to try and raise as much as possible to try and reach her target.”
The contest will take place at Skellow Social Club on May 16 with three separate age groups - four to nine-year-olds, 15 to 17-year-olds and the overall Miss British Empire South Yorkshire crown which will be open to 18-30-year-olds.
The winners will progress to the UK final later this year.
Hannah, a pupil at Ash Hill Academy, died last October from an incurable brain tumour. In the last few months of her life she embarked on a fundraising campaign to raise the money for the Parents’ Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia - a support group for families whose children have cancer.
Her dad David said: “We are going to keep going when we hit the target. Its great that so many people want to contribute. We
are planning more fundraising events for the summer.”
Entry fees and ticket sales from the contest and fundraising activity on the night will go towards achieving the target, which is around the £47,000 mark.
