BARONESS Estelle Morris, the former secretary of state for education and skills, visited a Dearne school on Friday to speak about her role in modern politics.

She visited Robert Ogden School in Thurnscoe to find out about its work as the UK’s largest school for children with autism.

Baroness Morris was taken on a brief tour of the school before attending a special assembly to give a speech on her role as a life peer in the House of Lords.

Headteacher Khursh Khan described the visit as a “fantastic opportunity” for students with autism to learn about UK politics.

Baroness Morris served as a Labour MP from 1992 to 2005. She was education secretary from 2001-02.
