Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis one of bookies’ favourites to replace Ed Miliband as Labour leader

Labour MP Andy Burnham is the bookies’ favourite to become the next leader of the Labour party, according to odds released today.

The shadow health secretary is out in front in the race to replace Doncaster MP Ed Miliband, who quit as Labour leader after a dramatic election night.

According to online gaming operator Unibet, Mr Burnham is 2/1, ahead of shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna, at 9/4.

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is at 3/1, while Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis is at 8/1.

Mr Miliband’s brother, David, has odds of 12/1 to become the next leader.
