More than 200 Dearne residents have signed a petition aimed at freezing energy bills.

Scores of people have backed a campaign launched in Goldthorpe calling for Prime Minister David Cameron to take action to halt rising energy prices.

Wath-based MP John Healey is helping to lead the campaign and claimed yearly gas and electricity bills had gone up £300 under the coalition government.

He said: “Many people I speak to are really struggling with the cost of living. As it gets colder they’re worried about energy bills, and are having to decide between heating their homes and buying food.

“Year after year, we’re seeing inflation-busting price hikes and the government need to get a grip of the problem. This is a chance for people in the Dearne to tell David Cameron they need him to freeze energy bills now.”
