A CEREMONY has taken place to mark the beginning of building work on Doncaster’s new £20 million performance venue.
Elected mayor Peter Davies was joined by contractors and supporters of the new facility which will boast a 600-seat auditorium, dance and drama studios, meeting rooms and a bar and cafe.
The venue will host live music, family entertainment, contemporary dance and drama performances.
Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra Junior Band also performed during the ground-breaking ceremony.
The development is part of the first phase of the £300 million Civic and Cultural Quarter to be built in the Waterdale area of the town centre spanning around 25-acres.
Mr Davies said: “This is an historic moment for Doncaster as work on its new venue gets underway. With its numerous performance spaces and world class facilities it will be another big attraction our residents and visitors to the town can benefit from.”
The venue is expected to open in 2013.
