A CHILDREN’S play area was set alight over the weekend, close to a new BMX park at Brampton Bierlow.
Dearne station firefighters were alerted to a children’s swing on fire off Moorbridge Crescent at about 8pm on Saturday night.
The area, where Brampton BMX Club, affiliated to British cycling, is based, is currently a target area for the Wentworth North SNT due to reports of gangs meeting there at night.
A South Yorkshire fire service spokesman said the Saturday night blaze was deliberate, but was extinguished quickly by the fire crew.
