Pupils and staff at Danum Academy’s Armthorpe Road site wanted to make a difference to needy children this Christmas and asked for donations of gifts to hand out to those living in poverty.

They teamed up with Junior Chamber International to boost its appeal.

“I cannot believe how generous everyone has been,” said Sharon West, Danum’s alternative curriculum co-ordinator.

“We know that by doing our bit, we will have helped make a difference to children in our community.”

As well as helping out with the appeal youngsters and staff also attended school in Christmas jumpers, T-shirts and ties to raise money for Save the Children Fund and for a school in the Philippines, where the cousin of a staff member works, that was devastated in the hurricane.
