A TWO minute silence will mark the start of this weekend’s tributes to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

The event will take place tomorrow at the Mansion House from 10.45am, and will be attended by representatives of the Armed Forces and civic dignitaries.

On Remembrance Sunday a short service, starting at 10.50am will be held at the war memorial in Bennetthorpe before a two minutes silence. There will then be the annual parade to Doncaster Minster for a church service. Mayor Peter Davies and his civic counterpart, Coun Eva Hughes along with senior Forces personnel will lead Sunday’s tributes.

On Saturday there will also be a Festival of Remembrance at the minster. Admission is £4 per person and is free for children under 12. For more details call the council on 01302 736000.

Mr Davies said: “As we remember those who have fallen in conflict to protect our freedoms, let us also think of those brave men and women from the borough who are currently serving the country.”
