A plane passenger has been forced to perform an emergency landing after the pilot fell ill at the controls.
A full scale emergency was sparked and two instructors called in to help the passenger bring down the light aircraft which had taken off from Sandtoft Airfield, near Doncaster.
The drama unfolded at Humberside Airport at around 7.45pm this evening.
The passenger is understood to have flying experience but he had not landed an aircraft before.
Roads around the airport were closed and two incoming flights were delayed while the aircraft was removed from the runway.
The pilot and passenger were the only people on board the aircraft. Details of the pair’s condition have not been released.
The airport has since reopened.
