Yorkshire’s strongest man and the county’s tallest man will be a big attraction when they both come to Doncaster this weekend.

Giant Mark Hellard, who measures up at a whopping 7ft 4in, will be among the guests at the Yorkshire Highland Games on Sunday when some of the area’s strongest men will be battling it out in a series of stamina-sapping feats of strength.
Rotherham’s Ryan Oldfield, recently crowned Yorkshire’s Strongest Man, will be among those taking part in events such as tossing the caber, tug of war and vehicle pulls in the extravaganza at Doncaster Knights’ Castle Park stadium from 11am.

Mark will officially open the games where strongmen will compete across six super human events.

Spokesman Andy Picken from promoters FunMeFit said: “It promises to be a great Yorkshire day out as God’s own county plays its very own version of the Highland Games in front of spectators.”

He added: “With tickets at a very affordable price we have made this event as accessible as possible and hope to establish the show as an annual event for Doncaster and Yorkshire. It is a unique show for the county and indeed Doncaster so don’t miss out”.

Mark Anglesea, two times Guinness World record holding strongman, who will be among those attending, said: “This is a new competition we have created with classic world’s strongest man events people watch on television at Christmas along with two highland games events. It promises to challenge the athletes and entertain the crowd.”

The full list of events is the caber toss, stone throw, two times vehicle pull, log press, tug of war and world famous atlas stones.

Ten athletes will take on the challenge to be crowned the winner.

Strongman competitions have recently seen an increase in popularity due to the popular and charismatic rise of Eddie Hall, the UK’S strongest man who has exploded onto television and qualified for the World’s Strongest Man finals multiple times.

Ticket prices are £10 and £5 concessions and can be booked on the ticket line on 01302 831388 or by emailing reception@castle-park.co.uk. Alternatively, spectators can pay on the gate for the same prices.
