One Direction have broken the band’s silence over rumours about their future, vowing: “We are not splitting up.”

Doncaster’s Louis Tomlinson told fans on Twitter the four-piece would just be taking a ‘break’.

Father-to-be Louis told his 20 million followers: “Your support is truly indescribable! It’s just a break, we’re not going anywhere!!”

He sent two further tweets, saying simply ‘promise’ and ‘don’t worry’.

The rumours sparked a scramble for tickets to what fans feared may be One Direction’s final concert.

Their tour finishes with three nights at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena on October 29, 30 and 31.

All three gigs at the 13,500 capacity venue sold-out weeks ago but tickets for the final Saturday performance – fans’ last chance to see the singers for the foreseeable future – are being offered for sale on auction sites at around £500.

It comes after sources claimed that the pop stars are set to go their separate ways in March.

Niall Horan, 21, told his 23 million Twitter followers: “Ok so lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well-earned break at some point next year.

“Don’t worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve! Can’t wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform some new songs as the (tour) continues. Love you all.”

In March, the band vowed to continue as a four-piece after Zayn Malik’s shock departure, which he said was so he could live like a ‘normal’ 22-year-old.

A flood of reports then suggested the group were on the verge of breaking up, but Payne thanked their devoted fans who are known as ‘Directioners’ for sticking with the band and “not thinking it’s finished”.

Payne also took to Twitter saying he was ‘so glad everything has been cleared up’ and that 1D fans and their support were ‘amazing’.

He wrote: “Can’t wait to put more time into everything we do and coming out with something great.

“Thank you so much for everything you have done for us it’s been the most amazing five years and there’s so much more to come.”
