DONCASTER born footballer Danny Rose is at the centre of a race storm after being subjected to monkey chants during an England Under 21s game which ended in chaos.

Angry Football Association chiefs have lodged an official complaint with the game’s governing body UEFA following the ugly scenes in Serbia which saw a string of players verbally abused and missiles thrown from the terraces.

Defender Rose, 22, was sent off after the final whistle for kicking a football into the crowd following his side’s 1-0 win which saw England qualify for Euro 2013.

In a statement, the FA said: “The FA condemns both the scenes of racism and the confrontation at the final whistle during which time our players and staff were under extreme provocation.

“The FA has reported a number of incidents of racism to UEFA following the fixture. These were seemingly aimed at a number of England’s black players by the crowd. The matter is now with UEFA.”

Fans ran on to the pitch and scuffles broke out after England progressed 2-0 on aggregate with punches and headbutts being thrown by opposition officials.

Skipper Jordan Henderson said: “I didn’t understand why Danny Rose was sent off at the end - I didn’t see he did anything wrong, other than get abused.”

Rose, a product of the Leeds United youth academy, where he began his career, went on to play for Tottenham in the Premiership and has spent time on loan at Peterborough United, Watford and Bristol City. He is currently on loan at Sunderland.

Internationally, he has been capped 25 times by England U21s and also featured in the Great Britain football team at the Olympic Games in London.
