Community projects get a £1,500 windfall

A FUNDRAISING group based in the Isle has handed over a total of £1,500 in funding to two community projects.

A group of friends from Haxey and Westwoodisde, known as ‘Comite d’evenment’, presented a £1,000 cheque to the Westwoodside Village Hall Committee which will go towards vital roof repairs.

The group also handed over £500 to the East Lound Christmas Lights committee, to ensure their display continues this year.

The name of the group - a French translation for a group of fundraisers - was chosen by Haxey resident Peter Kuchnir and the friends have also provided the Christmas trees and lights outside Haxey Memorial Hall for the last two years.

Various other local charities and beneficiaries have benfited thanks to Comite d’evenment, including football and cricket clubs, Westwoodside Pond Lights and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Chairman David Dawes wanted to thank everyone who supported last month’s Christmas with the Angels event and disco with The Acoustic Angels, held at Haxey Memorial Hall.

He added: “Plans are already in progress for the next Comite d’evenement event later this year, for details look out for posters which will be displayed in local pubs and shops around Haxey and Westwoodside.

“The aim of the Comite d’evenement is to support local self-funding groups.”
