Outdoor enthusiasts are being sought to take part in a brand new Peak District challenge in which they will walk or run up to 90km.
The Peak District Challenge event will take place on the weekend of September 20 -21 and participants can choose their distance from four options.
The event will start in Hathersage, Derbyshire, and those taking part can choose to complete a 90k gold route, an 80k silver route, the bronze route which is 50k or the copper route which is 25k.
Challengers taking part in the 90k and 80k events have 24 hours to complete the distance and will set off on the evening of Friday, September 20.
Those taking part in the shorter distances will have 12 hours to cover the ground and will set off on Saturday, September 21.
The event is organised by Wilderness Development – set up by Sheffield University graduates – to raise funds for various charities including SALVE International.
SALVE International works in Uganda to reduce the number of children living on the streets through education.
Will Sheaff, event organiser, from Derbyshire, said: “I wanted to create a series of challenges that inspire more people to get out and explore the beautiful varied landscape of the Peak District.
“There are so many good causes, both local and international, looking to raise funds to continue their good work despite the challenging economic climate, so I wanted to create challenges that allowed as many charities as possible to benefit.”
Philip Huthwaite, aged 26, is company director at Innoware and is taking part in the gold challenge.
He said: “I am really looking forward to the challenge of running such a distance, especially on such epic terrain.
“It will be the challenge of a lifetime and all for the fantastic charity SALVE International.
“I can’t wait for the big day to arrive.”
Participants and supporters are being urged to use public transport from Sheffield to Hathersage to reduce their impact on the environment.
