Time to get dirty

FANCY a dirty weekend in Doncaster? Here's your chance to get out and about and enjoy the great outdoors this weekend as the BBC's Springwatch project bounces back to life.

For Potteric Carr Nature Reserve will be one of dozens of places nationwide hosting the Dirty Weekend event on Saturday and Sunday which wants people of all ages to get their hands dirty and do something worthwhile in the name of nature.

Springwatch presenter Chris Packham said: "Going outside, getting my hands dirty and making a difference for wildlife is probably the most satisfying thing about my job.

"The Dirty Weekend is all about getting people across the UK to do the same. We want thousands of you to get muddy, grubby and downright dirty doing one thing for nature. Because if everyone gets stuck in and does just one thing, together we'll make a big difference."

And while Chris and fellow Springwatch presenter Kate Humble will not be at Potteric Carr, the pair are spearheading the campaign which will see nature reserves, parks, beaches and outdoor areas across the country joining in the fun as part of the BBC's Breathing Places campaign.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve will be open between 10am and 4pm on both days and will be playing host to a weekend of fun springtime activities for all the family including pond dipping, bird box making and guided walks.

Participants should meet at the reserve entrance and the events are open to adults and children of any age

The event is free but normal admission charges to Potteric Carr Nature Reserve will still apply.
