The over 40s in the Isle of Axholme continue to dance themselves to fitness with a regular Thursday afternoon keep fit session.

Organisers of Isle Dance 4 Health, Peter Barnard and Kate Billmore, are now in their fifth season of the project and said the sessions “couldn’t be better”.

Peter said that after the outstanding success of the first four programmes of folk dances held in Westwoodside, Epworth and Crowle, this year local folk dance band Lys St Georges Folk Dance Band have been running another programme of dances in the Isle villages, which are funded by a North Lincolnshire Council Community Grant Programme.

He added: “The dances move to Crowle Pavilion, Godnow Road, Crowle from today and for the following two Thursdays. Each dance starts at 2.30pm and lasts for two hours.

“You don’t need a partner nor any experience in folk dancing and the dances are suitable for all levels of fitness.”

He added: “These dances have been very popular with dancers returning week after week. Folk dancing is great fun and very sociable. The dances are all expertly taught and have great live music from the Lys St Georges Folk Dance Band to accompany them.

“These dances have been helped by £2,000 from North Lincolnshire Council Community Grant body. A big thank you to them and also the Lys St Georges band, which includes myself and Kate along with fiddle player Katy Robinson and concertina player, Dave Prebble.”
