LAST Thursday the world celebrated Wesley Day. In this picture we see a speaker in the guise of John Wesley addressing a crowd of onlookers in Epworth Market Place wearing appropriate attire for the period in which this founder of Methodism lived.
This was one of the great festive occasions during the last three or four decades, when Wesley Day has been celebrated. This ones dates from about 30 years ago.
This photograph is one of thousands taken by Derrick French during more than a decade as Bells Editor in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and as such forms part of a unique social history of Isle life.
We are indebted to former Bells employee Ron Shipley who has provided much information about the content of our pictures.
