Hundreds of music fans made the second Askern Music Festival a huge success.

Headliners, The Pigeon Detectives and a host of support acts from the region and further afield, also helped to raise more than £3,000 for the town’s cricket club.

Festival organiser, Andy O’Grady, 33, captain of the cricket first team and a well known local music promoter, said the festival was even bigger and better than last year.

He said: “What a great event. Last year there were about 300 people attending and this year there were hundreds more.”

He added: “As a music promoter that used to be events manager at The Dome in Doncaster and a person who helped to set up the Diamond Live Lounge I have quite a few contacts in the music industry, which enabled me to book quite a few acts this year.

“Acts included acoustic guitarist, Martin Black, and bands Ginger Tom from this area, a Campsmount School band called The District, Days of Riot from Huddersfield, Jackobins from Liverpoo and a band to watch out for, The Americas from Birmingham.

“Everything was brilliantly held together by compere for the day, martin temple, a forces cavalryman turned comedian.”

The day also included the local cricket team getting involved and an inflatable play park, face painting, and local community groups and schools also lending a hand.

Andy further added: “We hope to make next year’s festival even bigger and better, with more top live acts.”
