Doncaster pop sensation Louis Tomlinson and his One Direction band-mates are rumoured to be recording the Band Aid classic Do They Know It’s Christmas? to mark the song’s 30th anniversary.
Musical maestro Sir Bob Geldof, who masterminded the orignal single back in 1984, is understood to have approached the boy band stars to feature on a new version of the song which will be released this Christmas, according to a national newspaper.
It will be the fourth time the song has been put together by different acts, following on from Band Aid II who released the festive song in the 1990s with Band Aid 20 following it up in 2004.
The original song was put together by Geldof after he was moved by television reports of the Ethiopian famine and decided to rally his pop star pals to help raise vital funds for Africa.
Stars such as Boy George, Sting, Bono and many more performed on the original song which became the biggest selling single of all time in the UK.
It was followed by Live Aid, a huge one-day concert at Wembley Stadium the following summer and since then, Geldof has continued to stage a number of project aimed at reducing global poverty.
